Accessible activities Tailored to You

At Water Mill House, we believe life should be fulfilling and enjoyable at every stage. That’s why our lifestyle team provides a wide range of activities, therapies, outings and events to suit all tastes. The schedule being shaped by the ideas and wishes of our residents’ committee.

With activities ranging from musical entertainment, creative art therapy, uplifting exercise, topical quizzes, or simply socialising with friends, there’s lots to choose from. Our popular Knit and Natter, walking, gents and gardening clubs are open to everyone. They offer an ideal way to keep residents connected to their hobbies and taking pride in their accomplishments.

For residents with limited mobility or receiving nursing care, activities are thoughtfully adapted prioritising safety and wellbeing. This ensures they can experience the benefits in the comfort of their bedroom or a space where they are most at ease.

Making Dreams Come True

Our Wishing Well initiative helps make residents’ wishes come true – no matter how big or small. We believe it’s never too late to fulfil long-held dreams, and love creating unforgettable, personalised experiences for our residents to treasure.

Often, it’s the little things that mean the most, from enjoying afternoon tea with family, going on a shopping trip, or learning a new skill, we’re on a mission to create magical moments for our wonderful residents.

The Wishing Well  Experiences to Treasure

Linda

Let’s Go Fly a Kite

Linda fondly remembered flying kites with her father as a little girl. Armed with supplies, we took to the skies at Dunstable Down. Linda said: “Although it was almost 70 years since I’d done it, the memories came flooding back and it was so much fun!”

Romayne

Keeping En Pointe!

Professional dancer Romayne yearned to watch a ballet again. So, we arranged a special visit to the Bovingdon Dance Academy to watch rehearsals. Romayne said: “It means the world to me that I can continue my love for dance at Water Mill House.”

David

Bumper Harvest

David worked at Spitalfields and longed to rekindle his love of gardening. So, we ensured he had everything he needed to produce a bumper summer crop. David said: “I’m delighted with what I’ve been able to grow at Water Mill House!”

Namaste Care

Namaste Care creates moments of joy and connection for residents who struggle to communicate.  The internationally recognised therapy programme is rarely seen in care homes. It was originally designed in the United States more than 20 years ago to enhance the lives of people living with advanced dementia. It provides an immersive experience stimulating all five senses and uses sound, massage, aromatherapy, and calming lighting, to create a spa-like atmosphere.

Running regularly in our Zen Den or the comfort of a resident’s bedroom, our team members bring comfort and pleasure through the healing power of touch. Personalised photos and videos are displayed using a ceiling projector for a truly bespoke experience.

The sessions offer numerous benefits including improved sleep and engagement.

Meet Our Wellbeing Lead

With 20 years’ experience as a holistic therapist, I play a key role in enhancing residents’ quality of life by combining gentle exercise, massage and reflexology to help everyone keep active and fulfilled. We offer a variety of innovative therapies in a vibrant and inclusive environment. Every day at Water Mill House is an opportunity to connect, belong, and enjoy life together.

Elaine York Wellbeing Lead

Heart of The Community

Being connected to our local community in Hemel Hempstead is a big part of life at Water Mill House. Performers, therapy animals, schoolchildren and Duke of Edinburgh youth volunteers visit regularly, bringing energy and smiles to everyone.

Residents also enjoy weekly minibus outings, including excursions to local and seasonal attractions, historical sites and memorable boat trips along the Nash Mills canal.

🍩✨ WISH WEDNESDAY COMES AROUND WITH A BAKER’S TALE! ✨🍩

This weeks wish took us on a delicious trip down memory lane… with a jam-filled detour! 😋

Ruth remembered Simmons Bakers very well. Her father-in-law lived next door to Reg Simmons in Hatfield, and after his shifts, Reg would often bring home trays of leftover cakes to share with Ruth’s family. ❤️

And Ruth’s favourite? The classic jam doughnut, of course! 🍩❤️
Soft, sweet, tempting… and absolutely FULL of jam! 😂

It’s been over 15 years since Ruth’s last visit, so we thought it was time to bring back a little taste of the past.

A delicious doughnut, a lovely cuppa ☕️ and a whole lot of happy memories. Sometimes the simplest treats are the sweetest! 🥰

🍩 Jam today, memories forever! 🍩

☕🍰 Community spirit at its BEST! 💕

We headed over to the Community Café at Nash Mills Village Hall and what a lovely welcome we had! 🥰

A warm cuppa ☕, a lovely slice of cake 🍰, plenty of chatting, a fun quiz 🧠 and, of course… we couldn’t leave without a raffle! 🎟️🎉

And Jean clearly had her lucky socks on… 🧦🍀 FIRST OUT AND A WINNING TICKET! 🏆😂

A wonderful afternoon of friendship, laughter and community spirit. ❤️

🌾👀 SCARECROWS HERE, SCARECROWS THERE… SCARECROWS EVERYWHERE! 👀🌾

The Scarecrow Festival 2026 had arrived… and Water Mill House joined in! 🎉

Our residents got creative and made scarecrows representing their past professions — can you match the scarecrow to the resident? 🤔🧑‍🌾👩‍🍳👨‍🔧👩‍🏫

We proudly renamed ours “Care-Crows” and they were on show at St Mary’s Church, Apsley ⛪🌾

And it seems our straw filled friends made quite an impression… the Vicar absolutely loved our entry! ❤️👏

🌾 Care-Crows: standing telling our stories! 🌾
