We have a dedicated activities team who are there to invite, encourage and assist our residents to feel vital, active and useful. How you live your life on a daily basis is important to us, so we plan lifestyle activities in the home around you. From the arts to fitness and wellbeing, we aim to keep both mind and body active. We have shaped relationships with the local community who spend time and engage with our residents, as our residents feel that it is important to remain part of the community.
SMILE care home activities
At Water Mill House we are working with ‘SMILE’ a local group who support people in care homes and we currently have three different group meetings – Cake Decorating, Horticultural and Reminiscence. ‘SMILE’ leads a group of up to 15 people over a rolling six-week course. This has made such a difference to the lives of our residents and naturally brings a smile to their faces. It is good for our residents to see someone new in the home as this keeps them active and engaged. As well as our fitness centre we also have Oomph! Sessions, which combine fitness with fun. Through links with the local community, we also host musical entertainment and musical theatre including relatives’ own local amateur dramatic groups.
Regular weekly activities in the home include:
- Seated fitness class
- Gym sessions in the fitness suite
- Horticulture session
- Home baking and cake biscuit decorating
- Arts and crafts
- Games afternoon
- Film club
- Church service
- Reading with Year 3 pupils from Nash Mills Primary School
- Reminiscence sessions
