Karen Lumley is hoping that her new role will help her gain a better understanding of the condition, something which has increasing importance, considering the growing number of people relying on dementia care homes in the UK.

First launched by the Alzheimer’s Society in January 2013, Dementia Friends is an initiative which allows people to learn what it may be like to live with dementia; the hope is that their experiences can then be turned into positive action. The enterprise has been met with much positivity, and the Alzheimer’s Society is hoping to sign up one million Dementia Friends by 2015.

Dementia Friends is just one of the many projects aimed at helping those with the condition, allowing people to gain a better understanding of it whilst also working to make all aspects of life more manageable for sufferers.
